KeNHA Confirms the funder for Isiolo-Mandera Road Expansion, to commence soon

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has confirmed receiving $750 million (Ksh96.75 billion) from the World Bank for the expansion of the Isiolo-Mandera road, expected to be completed by 2029.

The project, part of the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project (HoAGDP), aims to boost regional connectivity between Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia by upgrading the road to bitumen standards. This year, Kenya is set to receive Ksh19.35 billion ($150 million) for the initiative.

KeNHA acknowledges potential displacement of encroachers along the corridor and has developed a Resettlement Policy Framework (RPF) to address the impacts. Additionally, KeNHA is seeking a firm to design and supervise the construction of Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Trade Facilitation Centres in Isiolo, Modogashe, and Wajir.

The road upgrade is expected to enhance trade, transport efficiency, and digital connectivity in northern Kenya.
