Kioni Blasts Gachagua Over Abduction Claims: ‘Stop the Political Theatrics’

Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has called out former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for failing to substantiate his alarming claims about abductions in Kenya. Kioni accused Gachagua of politicizing the sensitive issue and demanded concrete evidence to back his assertions.

In a statement shared on his official X account on Thursday, January 2, Kioni challenged Gachagua to name the individuals behind the reported abductions. His remarks follow Gachagua’s earlier threats to expose a covert unit allegedly responsible for the disappearances.

“Rigathi Gachagua must stop trivializing the grave issue of abductions in the country. His statements about revealing those involved, without following through with actionable disclosures, are both irresponsible and a slap in the face to the families suffering from these tragedies,” Kioni stated.

The Jubilee leader expressed deep concern over the lack of follow-up on Gachagua's December 27 claims, where the former DP promised to reveal details about those behind the abductions but has since remained silent. Kioni warned that such unverified remarks only deepen the anguish of families already affected by these tragedies.

Demand for Decisive Action

Kioni emphasized that the issue of abductions is too severe to be treated as a political talking point. “Lives are at stake, and this matter demands the utmost seriousness. Playing politics with such a sensitive issue is unacceptable and a betrayal of public trust. Either he provides the nation with concrete information or refrains from making misleading statements,” he asserted.

The Jubilee Secretary General reiterated the need for decisive leadership to address the growing concerns around abductions. He called on all leaders to prioritize the safety of Kenyans over political gamesmanship.

Police Distance Itself from Abduction Allegations

The National Police Service (NPS) has also weighed in on the matter, denying any involvement in abductions. Inspector General Douglas Kanja assured the public that the service is committed to upholding the rule of law.

“The police strictly adhere to the service’s standing orders, which exclude abductions. It is regrettable that the public is linking the police with unlawful forcible disappearances without evidence,” Kanja stated.

The issue of abductions continues to raise concern among Kenyans, with calls for comprehensive investigations and accountability. As the nation waits for clarity, Kioni’s strong message to Gachagua highlights the urgency of addressing this crisis with seriousness and integrity.
